Job Description
The Research Governance and Compliance Specialist (Legal Support) provides expert legal and regulatory oversight to ensure that all research activities within the institution comply with applicable laws, ethical standards, and internal policies. This role supports the Vice President’s Office in developing, maintaining, and enforcing governance frameworks that promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in research practices.
Key Responsibilities:

Advise the Vice President and relevant stakeholders on legal, ethical, and compliance issues related to research governance.

Monitor and interpret relevant laws, regulations, and institutional policies that affect research practices, including data protection, intellectual property, and research ethics.

Draft, review, and manage contracts, MOUs, NDAs, and other legal documents related to research activities and partnerships.

Collaborate with research teams to ensure compliance with grant requirements, ethical standards, and institutional policies.

Develop and implement training and awareness programs for faculty, researchers, and administrative staff on legal compliance and governance issues.

Participate in internal audits and investigations of non-compliance or misconduct in research practices.

Assist in the preparation and submission of compliance reports to internal and external stakeholders.

Maintain documentation and records related to legal and regulatory compliance for all research projects.

Serve as a liaison with external legal bodies, regulators, and ethics committees when necessary.
